Lawn Disease Control: Proper Balance Is Key

Nature’s Select can help maintain (or regain) a beautiful lawn with balanced nutrition and regular inspection for diseases that can appear and quickly cause serious damage to your lawn. The Nature’s Select Lawn Care programs use targeted nitrogen levels to promote healthy green grass without the overgrowth that can stimulate disease development. If disease does appear, our technicians can identify and treat it quickly.

In some cases, a history of disease or other factors can make a lawn more susceptible to disease regardless of how well the fertilization program is managed. In those instances, we may recommend preventive treatment to avoid damage if the likelihood of disease is high.

Of all the diseases, there are only about 18 turfgrass diseases that develop year after year. Most diseases are caused by fungi, although grass species vary in their susceptibility to certain diseases. Other factors affecting disease development include lawn health, geographical area, weather, and seasonal conditions as well as lawn maintenance practices. The hot, humid months of May, June, July, and August are prime for disease development.

Brown Patch Causes & Treatment (Rhizoctonia solani)

Brown Patch Treatment North Carolina

Of all the diseases, brown patch is a virulent fungus common in our area. Hot, humid summer weather and high nitrogen levels in the soil are the perfect combination of factors for the development of brown patch disease. It’s important to monitor your lawn for brown spot, as it develops and spreads quickly.

Fungicide is effective at stopping the spread of the disease, but it must be used every two to three weeks if conditions remain favorable for its development. Keep in mind that the brown patch treatment will not repair already-damaged areas of the lawn.

Other Troublesome Lawn Issues

We also offer other lawn disease control and lawn pest control programs for your home. Keep in mind that proper lawn care programs, tree and shrub programs, and practices such as aeration and seeding all work together to cultivate a healthy yard from the soil up. Healthy yards are more resistant to diseases than a yard suffering from neglect or lack of nutrients and consistent watering.

We have been using Nature's Select for a few months now and it has made a very big difference in our yard, trees and shrubs. Very professional and thoughtful management.
